The Estonian Science Foundation (EstSF), established on July 1990 by Estonian Government, is an expert research-funding organisation. Its main goal is to support the most promising research initiatives in all fields of basic and applied research. The EstSF uses state budget appropriations to award peer-reviewed research grants to individuals and research groups on a competitive basis.

Tartu Science Park was established in 1992. The first Managing Director of the TSP was the current Vice President of the IASP (International Association of Science Parks) Dr Raivo Tamkivi. Tartu Science Park is a member of IASP and actively participates in several different EU projects. For instance, Tartu Science Park is a member of Pan-European IRC network (see also www.ircnet.lu ) -- a marketplace for innovative ideas, technologies and products. Most of the companies in TSP work in the fields of ICT and electronics. The tenant companies have business contacts all over the world, be it USA, Russia, Korea or Cayman Islands, and are recognized for timely delivery and good quality.
